If you are sick, stay home
Multnomah Bible College and Biblical Seminary is a close community. Students need to think of others when suffering illness.
This is important because illness is spreading. The nurse gets 26 to 28 calls per day.
Yet most students do not call in when they feel sick, which threatens other students' health.
Most students feel reluctant to skip class because they cannot afford to miss exams or the valuable information professors present. Some professors emphasize attendance.
Yet most professors would appreciate if students stayed home when sick. Students are in danger of spreading the illness to others, making the professor's job harder.
Perhaps professors should pass out masks to those students who continue to go to class sick. Although embarrassing, the masks would prevent the spread of illness while students take that exam. Then again, maybe those sick students should stay home!
Besides, students have many good reasons to stay home. They could catch up on homework. They could
read that novel they've always wanted
to read.
They could sleep in. They could listen to that favorite CD or the radio. Sick days provide the rest and relaxation students crave.
Most of all, staying home prevents the spread of contagious illnesses.
The cold and flu season is coming. If you don't stay home, you will only help illness to spread.
As members of a community, students should respect others' health. Here are some practical ways to do just that:
- Wash your hands. This is the best way to prevent spreading germs.
- Stay home when ill. Call the nurse for an excused absence.
- Ask a friend to get you a sick tray from the commons.
- Pick up after yourself.
- Cover your mouth when sneezing and coughing.
- Wipe off door handles or anything else you touch.
MBC makes getting an excused absence easy. All you have to do is call the nurse. Take advantage of it.
