Voice newspaper website is popular destination

The Voice's Web site is the fourth most frequently visited section of MBC's web site. Faculty adviser Ann Staatz said that "the primary focus and aim of the Web site is to make available to the general public the information that The Voice publishes."

In the mid-1990s, Greg Hartman, a graduate of the journalism program, had the idea of starting a Web site for The Voice. What began as an independent study project resulted in the formation of a life-long career. Hartman now serves as senior on-line editor at Focus on the Family.

Mark Hinkleman, a senior, has been on-line editor for The Voice since January, 2001. He will graduate in May, 2003, with a minor in pastoral studies. Before his graduation, Hinkleman needs to find a new on-line editor to train.

The important elements in a good school newspaper Web site include being able to navigate easily and reporting the news accurately, Hinkleman said.

Professor Staatz said, "I wish more students at Multnomah would view writing as a ministry.

"The Voice Web site gives students a broader outreach because on a Web site you're on a level playing field with 'Christianity Today' and The New York Times," she said. "It's a wonderful opportunity for students and good exposure for them."
