Grace Bible School, located in Reno, Nev., is set to become a satellite campus of Multnomah Bible College as soon as MBC receives accreditation from the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. MBC has agreed to accept for transfer most of GBS students' credits, according to Wayne Strickland, MBC academic dean.
"They've got a lot of energy down there," Dr. Strickland said. "They've completely mimicked Multnomah's program." In fact, GBS has copied MBC down to the subtle details such as format used for course syllabi.
MBC is advising GBS on all major institutional decisions, including the recent naming of former MBC graduate Tony Slavin as directior of GBS. Mr. Slavin took the position in June. In addition, MBC president Dr. Daniel Lockwood is serving on the GBS board of trustees.
MBC professor Dr. Larry Ayers spent a year as interim director of GBS. Dr. Ayers observed and advised the administration and faculty on behalf of MBC, drawing from his experiences as vice superintendent of Portland Public Schools and as the president of Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland, Ore.
Multnomah is set for NASC approval by June, 2005, under all favorable circumstances. If GBS is financially self-sufficient by then, it could become an official satellite that fall, according to Dr. Strickland.
In 2000, GBS approached Multnomah about becoming a satellite campus.
GBS is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, within short driving distance to popular ski resorts surrounding Lake Tahoe.
The college seeks to be an established Bible school to serve the Northern Nevada and eastern California areas in bringing a biblical perspective to life, according to the GBS Web site.
