Poll shows what women at Multnomah want in a man

A recent poll revealed that passion for God is the prize-winning quality Bible college women look for in a Christian man.

The poll surveyed Multnomah Bible College women with the question: "What do you consider to be the most important quality for a Christian man to possess as a prerequisite for dating?" The responses varied, but 68 percent of women stressed biblical virtues and a strong personal relationship with Christ.

"Before his heart is devoted to me, it has to be devoted to God," Rachel gardell said. gardell said she is not looking for a man who is a Christian by words alone but someone with true devotion to God.

The young women are searching for a man whose dedication is continually demonstrated by actions.

"I want a guy with an unquenchable passion for the Lord that flows into every aspect of his life," Emily Kurtz said. Thirty-two percent of the women polled said a passion for God was the most important quality in a prospective date.

Twenty-four percent listed honesty and integrity as the No. 1 quality they looked for in a man they would consider dating.

Multnomah student Missy VanMeter said a relationship must be built on trust. She explained that she could not trust a dishonest man with her heart. "Trust and love are woven together," VanMeter said. Twenty percent of the women on MBC's campus wanted to be pursued by the man. Many women said that the first requirement came down to the man taking the initiative. "I want to feel desired and sought after," Erin Cady said.

When Kara Miller was polled, she laughed as she responded: "He has to pursue me. That and humility."

Communication was another area of importance to women. "He has to be a great conversationalist," Emily Harms said.

She values communication skills so highly that she said she would end a relationship if the man did not talk to her enough.

Other important traits included loyalty, genuine character, humor, respect, leadership, encouragement, humility and gentleness.

The poll surveyed 50 women on MBC's campus. The poll was conducted on Oct. 13.

The women polled were between 18 to 30 years old and were asked the question individually and in person.
