Simpson College walked out of Lytle gym with the championship banner after winning the women's regional volleyball tournament Oct. 24-25. The Redding, Calif., team proved too tough for second place Southwestern from Phoenix, Ariz. Life Pacific College from San Demas, Calif., finished last.

The Simpson women's team will now head to Lincoln, Ill., for the national tournament.

MBC will host the regional tournament again next year.

"The tournament went really smoothly and there were no injuries," Coach Debbie Speer said.

Although Coach Speer felt her team made improvement throughout the season, she said the team had more potential for the tournament.

Student turnout from MBC was dismal, as it has been for the entire season. More fans from California attended than from MBC.

With the volleyball season over, the women look forward to planning their missions trip to Papau New guinea.

Because the team must raise support for the missions trip in June, the women will hold fundraisers during spring semester.

The first event will be a four-on-four volleyball tournament planned for early next semester. The volleyball team will run the event.
