On Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Solid Rock Cafe will host Study Break, where students can perform original music, read poetry or step in front of an open mike night.

On the first and third Thursdays of the month, the Solid Rock Cafe will feature an artist performing original music. On the second Thursday of the month, students will read original poetry. On the fourth Thursday, any willing individual can read, perform or give an artistic presentation during open mike.

Study Break will not be limited to poetry and music. Certain students will display original artwork, while others, such as Bryce Wescott, will present original video work.

Kristy McIntire, a cafe employee, discussed the need for an outlet like Study Break with her friends and then took the idea to her manager.

"Multnomah's not exactly an art school," McIntire said, "and I really wanted a way for students to be able to express their more creative sides."

McIntire will organize the weekly Thursday night show.

Study Break will also have returning performers. Trent Price and Nick Ippolito, who performed at the first concert, will be performing again.

"It was really cool being able to play with musicians that were so talented," Ippolito said. "Everyone was so great."

Ippolito has played guitar and sung since he was in the eighth grade.

Price added, "I think it's really great that there's now a venue where people can come together and display all their talents and show their passion, somewhere they can really share their hearts."
