What's Up With Stugo?

Stugo always has had and will have a lot of ideas. I want to give you an update about some ideas for this year.

Like butterflies, some ideas are ready to fly and some need further development in the cocoon before they hit the sky. First I want to let you know about some ideas that are ready to fly.

Fall Banquet is ready to fly. Bethany Aldrich and her banquet committee have done a spectacular job preparing for the event.

We're having the banquet on top of a building by the waterfront on the evening of Friday, November 3. It might be a bit chilly, but never fear; we will have heaters! The food is going to be delicious.

Comedian Jerry Miner will entertain us for the evening. Miner has appeared on national television several times including gigs with ESPN, NBC, MTV, and VH1. Banquet will bring food and laughter to all.

In addition we had a ladies pumpkin carving party this fall that Allie Block organized. Thirty women showed up to sink their hands into pumpkin brains on Oct. 26.

On Oct. 20, Drew Michael led an all-guys Boston Tea Party. We men drank tea, ate cookies and played cards. We busted open a tea crate to celebrate liberation from the British.

Here are some ideas still in the cocoon:
Stugo has partnered with Portland's Franklin High School to organize an Africa Benefit Concert through World Vision. We want to give the gift of music to Portland and the gift of water to Africa.

The goal is to raise $92,000 for 17 water wells between January and May of next year. Then we'll celebrate with the Portland community by presenting a concert in Franklin High's backyard, May 11. For the event to fly, we still have to find a feature band that could interest enough people.

"School Ice" is another event-in-planning. We'd like to rent the ice rink at the Lloyd Center and sell cheap tickets to everyone so we could enjoy an active evening on ice. It would be, of course, coed.

Finally, we want to give color to the JCA lounge. Stugo is hoping to have local artists paint murals on the walls to give the lounge some atmosphere. Artists come forth!

So that's the scoop! Till next time, I'm Michael Myers signing off; good week to you all.
