What's going on at MBC?

Since I arrived on this campus 11 months ago, I have come to a conclusion about a lot of things that I would like to highlight in an attempt to make you ponder and search your heart. My intention is not to be divisive, nor speak or imply ill feelings toward fellow members of this campus, faculty, staff or administration. My intention is to merely pose some questions that I have been thinking about because I don't understand.

Why aren't we imitating God more? How many people go downtown to visit and minister to the homeless people and prostitutes? How many people on this campus took time this semester to help the blind twins, John and Richard? Why is it so easy to walk by these brothers in Christ as they vigorously search for the sidewalk instead asking if you could take them somewhere? Because it is easier for us to ignore that which makes us uncomfortable than it is to be an imitator of God--selfless and caring.

Why isn't love overflowing off our campus? Why does someone with a

different style of dress and/or piercing make us uncomfortable? Newsflash: Jesus didn't love people who only looked a certain way and believed a certain thing. Why are there dividing lines drawn into our rules that separate us from so many possible ministry opportunities? What makes tattoos, body piercing, and strange- colored hair "un-Christian?" We are called to reap the harvest not to look like a bunch of preppies and minister to a bunch of preppies.

Why are you here? For those of you who are here because your parents wanted it or to learn a bunch of head knowledge and not put it into heart knowledge, trust me it shows. I often find myself at chapel or in class pondering what we are singing during the worship time, and I think to my-self, man, if that were true, and we actually meant what we were saying, this campus would be such an awesome place!

We are called to be imitators of God. So let's take the focus off ourselves and serve others on and off this campus--joyfully, lovingly, humbly--just as you would and should serve the Lord.
