Faculty to publish books
Two members of Multnomah's faculty, Dr. Dan Scalberg, chair of the college's history department, and Dr. Ron Frost, assistant seminary professor in Historical Theology, have books in the publication process.
Dr. Frost's book about Bible reading as a discipleship tool has been submitted to the editor of Harvest House Publishing and is due out sometime next year. The tentative title is "Discover the Power of the Bible."
An article that Dr. Frost wrote for Moody Monthly 12 years ago motivated him to begin working on this book. The article was about Dr. Frost's approach to ministry and Bible reading and continues to produce lasting effects on those who have read it. Dr. Frost decided to write this book as an expansion of the same issue. This will be Dr. Frost's first published book; he has published several articles.
Two editors from Harvest House Publishing approached Frost about a year-and-a-half ago about possible book ideas. They liked his idea and wanted to move it to publication.
Dr. Scalberg's book is also in the midst of the publication process. The editor of Kregel Publishing will receive his book sometime around the first of next year. The book is tentatively titled "A Modern Pilgrim's Guide to the History of the Church in England."
Dr. Scalberg gathered information for the book during his extensive travels in England including five trips guiding tours in England. Dr. Scalberg has traveled more than 15 times to England. The book will be a picture travel book that serves as a historical guide for pilgrims who have been to England, are planning on going, or are thinking about going.
Dr. Scalberg took all the photographs for the book. Key historical sites in England form the chapter divisions. For example, a chapter will be on Canterbury Cathedral with pictures and a historical commentary.
Editors from Kregel Publishing visited Multnomah's campus about three years ago, soliciting manuscripts from faculty members. Dr. Scalberg proposed a book idea and then Dennis Hellmen, the editor, suggested another idea. The result was a combination of the two -- a book written for a broad lay Christian audience about the contributions of the church to England and history.
