DM812Y Adolescent Sociology & Ministry  (3 credits)

An investigation into the world of young people and a look at macro trends in adolescence and the societal forces that shape them. The role of the church and youth workers in the development of youth will also be considered along with implications for ministry to the same.

The follow-up online course to the in-class seminar. The discussion forum is the opportunity to put what was learned in class into action in the student’s ministry setting.

 

DM 814Y Counseling Youth (3)

An examination of effective counseling techniques needed for today’s youth workers. Discussion will also include family ministry and ministering to “at risk” young people, including several of the issues that are ubiquitous to the age segment.

The follow-up online course to the in-class seminar. The discussion forum is the opportunity to put what was learned in class into action in the student’s ministry setting.

 

DM 822Y Youth Ministry Models (3)

This course will reflect upon the history of North American youth ministry with attention given to the models and strategies used in the past and present day. The course will also look forward evaluating current models and looking to the future. (Guest Lecturer: Mark Oestreicher)

This course will study the best practices of personal health within ministry with consideration given to: ministry boundaries, spiritual disciplines, conflict resolution, working within the non-profit context, submission to authorities, and working with boards.

This course will utilize contemporary media as a window into the world of youth and present the skills needed to accurately exegete youth culture towards relevant and effective ministry.

DM 834Y Youth and the Church (3)

This course will take a frank look at the current situation vis-à-vis youth and the church. Strategies for retention and the future implications of young adult attrition will be discussed.
