"And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years." –Abraham Lincoln
Where I come from
I was born in Fairbanks, Alaska, went to elementary school in Hillsboro, Oregon, and finished High School in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. For the majority of my adulthood, I have lived in either Seattle, Washington or Vancouver, Washington where I have learned to hardly notice the rain.
All through my growing up years, going to church and attending Sunday school were an integral part of my weekly routine. I knew about Jesus, asked him into my heart, and understood the important role faith played in a person’s life. It wasn’t until my high school years, however, that my personal relationship with Jesus Christ began to mature. This maturing revelation of who Jesus Christ is to me personally has continued to develop and deepen as I walk through the peaks and valleys of this journey called my life.
Why I teach at Multnomah
What I love about teaching here at Multnomah is the opportunity to pass on the passion I have for children, the passion I have for teaching, and the passion I have for our Lord, Jesus Christ. The opportunity to fulfill the dream of mentoring tomorrow’s teachers is not only humbling but also an enormous blessing.
Current ministry outside class
I have enjoyed mission trips to Australia and Africa where visiting and working with children in schools in both of these countries was sheer joy. I also serve on the board of Vancouver Christian High School.
Education and research
My desire to become a teacher and grow in my relationship with the Lord led me to attend Seattle Pacific University where I earned a degree in Language Arts and received a K-8 elementary and 4-12 Language Arts teaching certificate.
In 1982, I began my teaching career in first grade at Bellevue Christian School and stayed there until 1989. During that time, I worked on an emphasis in reading instruction and my CSI (Christian Schools International) certification. When we moved to Vancouver, Washington in 1996 I began teaching first and second grade at Kings Way Christian School until 2007. While there, I earned a masters degree in Reading Education and a Reading Specialist endorsement.

Favorite verse in the Bible
“‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart’” (Jeremiah 29:11-13).
Extra-curricular, non-ministry activities
I enjoy being outside doing a variety of activities such as golfing, gardening, walking, boating, motorcycle riding, and whenever possible, soaking up the sunshine. I also love traveling and hope to spend time in all of the continents (I have been to four, have three left, not sure about spending time in Antarctica? That might have to be a fly over!).
My husband, Rich, and I have five adult children between us and one very faithful dog, Bailey.
