Lions Come up Short

92-95 loss

The Multnomah Lions took on the West Coast Baptist Eagles on Saturday night for the 2nd time this year. The Eagles won the first meeting 68-97 two weeks ago.

Austin Hodges got things going early with two deep three pointers and David Walker added another to help lead Multnomah to a 50-47 halftime lead. The Lions were outrebounded in the first half, but were able to turn the Eagles over 15 times with their press.

In the second half, the Eagles adjusted to the press and only turned the ball over 3 times. The Lions on the other hand were very benevolent and turned the ball over 12 times in the half. MU found itself down 57-75 with ten minutes to go, but came roaring back behind the shooting of Walker, Hodges, Matt Johnson and Erik Mendoza. Steve Bustrin’s penetration opened things up for the shooters and eventually with 42 seconds left, Hodges found Mendoza open in the corner for a three that tied things up at 85.  Colton Cochran went to the other end and immediately hit a three to put WCB back up 3 and the Lions couldn’t catch up from there.

Hodges finished with 26 points and Walker finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Paris led the Lions with 17 rebounds. The Lions will travel to Portland Bible College on Tuesday for their next conference game.

SCORING: Walker – 23, Mendoza – 8, S. Coleman – 3,  Johnson – 6, Hodges – 26, Bustrin – 14, Sansone – 2, Paris – 8, J. Coleman – 2
