The Multnomah Lions beat New Hope Christian College on Saturday afternoon 112-108 to offset an earlier loss at NHCC by the score of 144-104.
The Lions took the floor without 2 starters as second leading scorer Davey Walker was sick and Jordan Paris was out with an ankle injury. It was a tight game throughout as both teams kept it up-tempo in the first half to go into the locker room with a one point NHCC lead of 58-57.
In the second half, the Lions just simply hung in the game in a gutty performance. Erik Mendoza and Stevie Sansone ripped it from the outside and Austin Hodges and Steve Bustrin kept the scoring going as the biggest lead the Lions had the entire game was 6 points. With the score tied under 4 minutes, Mendoza hit 2 straight threes to give MU a working margin that they rode to the end.
MU got key contributions from JV players Mike Kamlade and Daniel Aguilar as they played key minutes for the Lions.
Mendoza scored in the thirties for his 3rd straight game with 34 points. Stevie Sansone nailed 6 three pointers and Steve Bustrin had 19. The Lions were outrebounded 70-35 in the contest, but found a way to hang tough.
MU will finish the regular season with a home game against Walla Walla on Monday at 2:00.
SCORING: Mendoza – 34, S. Coleman – 7, Kamlade – 6, Hodges – 18, Bustrin – 19, Sansone – 20, J. Coleman – 8
