Environmental Science

As an emerging environmental scientist, you’ll incorporate studies in biology, chemistry, economics, politics, business and ethics to understand the relationship between humans and the natural world. You’ll be equipped to pursue a career in urban development, field research, natural resource management, environmental restoration, or other related fields. And you’ll emerge ready to tackle pressing creation care issues such as climate change, pollution and sustainable agriculture.

Explore the field in depth

  • Evaluate the many facets of human impact on the environment.
  • Analyze environmental problems from a variety of disciplines, including the sciences, ethics, politics and economics.
  • Develop appropriate strategies to research and analyze environmental problems from a scientific perspective.
  • Construct a coherent understanding of environmental science that is integrated with Christian theological principles.
  • Critique values, assumptions and contexts that influence the relationship and response between humans and the environment.
  • Effectively use and critically evaluate the current scientific literature in the discipline.
  • Effectively communicate the standards and current practices in the field of environmental sciences to both professional audiences and lay people.

Job outlook

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of environmental scientists and specialists is projected to grow 11 percent between 2014 and 2024, which is faster than the average for all occupations.

Heightened public interest in the hazards facing the environment, as well as the increasing demands placed on the environment by population growth, is expected to spur demand for environmental scientists and specialists.
