Dr. John Terveen considers it an incredible privilege to walk with students through the stories of God’s redemptive history recounted in the Bible. During his Ph.D. studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, he was compelled by the significance of historical studies into Jesus’ life and teachings. At Multnomah, he works with students on the many strands of research regarding the life and teachings of Jesus– both ancient and modern – in the Gospels, especially looking at the impact of understanding first-century Judaism for better comprehending the gospel portrayal of Jesus’ life and teachings. He thanks God for the opportunity to show students how to read the Word for all its worth – holistically, historically, and with ears of faith to hear and obey. His greatest joy is that his students share the Gospel of the kingly reign of God in Christ as witnessed to in Scripture throughout the world.
God has blessed John with a wonderful spouse with whom he has shared a rich life journey of faith and work. Their son is an engineer in the Portland area; God took one of their daughters, Rachel, home to heaven in 1999, a loss which has deeply colored their faith and life; and their two other daughters are in elementary school.
