Dr. Johnson serves Multnomah as the Library Director and teaches American history, Church History, and Bible classes. He loves building the library collection and creating a comfortable environment for study and research. As a professional historian and librarian, he is especially interested in 19th century American history. He has investigated the beliefs of 19th-century evangelical men as they wrestled with the changing roles of men and women and studied the interplay of missions, manifest destiny, and the history of Hawaii.

Dr. Johnson has been married since 1973 and has two children and three grandchildren. He regularly joins his wife in singing the great hymns of the faith in the choir at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church.
