Chris Hynes grew up in Claremont, California, and played multiple sports throughout high school. A medal at the 2001 Junior Olympics with Foothill Volleyball Club persuaded him to make volleyball a primary focus. He began coaching club volleyball while earning his undergraduate degree from UC Riverside in English, which he earned in 2006. He continued to coach for 5 years at Ontario Christian High School, as well as teaching middle school English/Language Arts and Music at Hope Lutheran School. During this time, he also co-founded Assist Volleyball Club, which hatched from a shared vision for incorporating community service with an affordably priced club experience.
His college coaching career began in 2013 with the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens women’s team. During his time in the highly competitive SCIAC conference, which has consistently produced NCAA DIII national champions, the Sagehens qualified for playoffs 3 times. In 2021, the team placed second in conference, earning the staff Coaching Staff of the Year honors from SCIAC. Since 2018, he has coached at Ignite Volleyball Club in Chino Hills, California, helming their 18-1 and 14-1s teams and guiding them to improved finishes each year, both regionally and nationally.
When not in the gym, Chris enjoys relaxing by playing guitar and piano, rock climbing, and cycling, as well as cooking and spending meaningful time with friends and family. He is excited to play a role in the ascent of the Multnomah Women’s Volleyball program, and to play a role in the journey of Christian student-athletes through college and towards their future.
