I was born in Dallas, Texas but grew up in Spokane, Washington. I am the oldest of three children. I came to faith in Christ as a young boy growing up in a Christian home. My parents modeled a love for God’s Word and service to others. I realize I was fortunate to have this foundation and to have many spiritual mentors in my life since childhood.
I taught instrumental and choral music in Ephrata, Washington, and in Beaverton, Oregon, and at one time served as an interim private school administrator. I also have twenty years of service as a music and worship pastor in churches in northern Idaho, southern California, and Portland. While serving as a pastor, I enjoyed planning and leading worship, directing a wide range of vocal and instrumental groups and worship teams, writing, arranging and recording music, teaching God’s Word, and discipling others.
I am the son of a teacher so I think I am genetically predisposed to teaching! I love teaching at Multnomah because I enjoy helping others grow in their faith in Christ and develop their abilities to more effectively serve in His kingdom. I want to assist men and women in their walk with Jesus Christ as others did for me.
Probably my favorite chapter in the Bible is Romans 8 because it reminds me of what I have gained by faith in Christ, how I should live out my faith in Christ, and the tremendous confidence that God is faithful to complete what he has begun in my life.
Outside of class, my wife and I are active in our church where I also serve as an elder. I also serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the Cannon Beach Christian Conference Center in Cannon Beach, Oregon. I love reading biographies of great men and women who have been used by God to effect change in the world and to build His kingdom. Reading these biographies really inspires me!
My wife and I have been married since 1978. We have two sons, two daughters-in-law, and four beautiful grandchildren. I love to spend lots of time with my family – which also usually involves lots of food and laughter. I love to read, write, work in my garden, go for walks and hikes with my wife, write and arrange music, and dabble in photography, drawing, and painting.
