I was born in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan and grew up on the Canadian Prairies loving hockey and football. As I entered high school, I began working at Bible camp. There I met the love of my life, Leslie, and discovered a love for youth ministry. We worked at camp for 7 years before moving into church ministry for another 15 years in places like Lethbridge Alberta, Surrey British Columbia, Steinbach Manitoba, and Chicago Illinois.
I first asked Jesus to forgive my sins after a particularly scary sermon on hell when I was five. Over the next few decades I discovered how deeply significant that simple decision was. I felt a call to ministry during my high school years and committed myself to work for the kingdom in whatever place I was called. It has been a fantastic journey rich with meaningful relationships and full of joy.
I love teaching at Multnomah for one reason: The students. We have a tremendous collection of young people, many of whom have given their entire lives to Christ and are seeking to make this world a better place. I have worked with young people since the late 80’s and it is a tremendous joy to observe the growth in their lives and watch them find their place in the kingdom.
When not teaching, Leslie and I have been fortunate to travel to various places speaking and teaching at camps and youth events and other Bible schools. We have also spent considerable time leading youth retreats at our church (Abundant Life Church) at Multnomah (Spring Thaw) and around the world. We have also had the pleasure of leading teams of Multnomah students to do youth ministry abroad in places like Germany, Japan, and Canada. And when I have time, I love playing bass for my church’s weekend services.
Currently, I love watching the Oregon Ducks, Portland Trailblazers, Vancouver Canucks, Saskatchewan Roughriders or any Canadian Hockey team. Other than sports, I really enjoy post-apocalyptic movies and pretty much anything science fiction.
