If you had told me 5 years ago that I would be directing a counseling program, I would have laughed. Apparently, God has a sense of humor. From the start of my career, He has pointed me in directions I didn’t want to go or think would work for me. And He is always right. Working at Multnomah is no exception: God directed, I laughed, and here I am–loving every minute of it, and amazed that He knows me better than I know myself.
In addition to this clear calling to direct the MAC program, I absolutely love this University. I love the authentic, deep-thinking, family-oriented, and Christ-following faculty. I love the engaged, hard-working, fun, and capable students. I love the deep commitment to Christ and his word, balanced by a deep commitment to accepting a diversity of opinions and people. I love the beauty that is all around here — both on campus and within those walking its halls.
Professionally, I am a clinical psychologist. I have worked in a variety of settings, including community mental health, a college counseling center, and private practice. I most enjoy working individually with adults related to personal growth, Mood Disorders, and spiritual issues, but I have worked with all ages and seen couples, families, and groups as well. I identify as an assimilative integrationist with a psychodynamic backbone.
In terms of teaching, I have taught at three other Christian universities in Southern California and was previously the Director of Clinical Training at one of them. I also have a passion for getting all of our wonderful therapeutic tools and information beyond the therapy office and classroom, so I’ve done a lot of work aimed a general audience. These works include various articles, a vlog (“The Mom Degree”), an ebook (“R u red-e 4 conflict? Speaking Human in the Digital Age”), a book (“Holistic Success: How to Dance Through Life with the Abandon of a Child and Skill of a Master”), and a workbook/DVD series (“Diet Free Forever”).
I am married with three young kids, so most of my non-work time is spent with my beautiful family. We enjoy hiking, playing games, gardening, and reading books. Occasionally I can even get away to read a book on my own or hike with my husband or friends too. We enjoy the great outdoors of the Portland region.
