In Memory of Jack Dryden

On February 25, 2020, Multnomah University lost a beloved member of our family and the former Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr. John “Jack” Dryden, after a prolonged battle with cortico-basal degeneration. While we grieve the death of our colleague and friend, we also celebrate his life and the impact that he had on so many individuals and this institution as a whole.

Jack Dryden was a member of the Board of Trustees from 2000-2017 and served as Chair from 2005-2014. The Dryden family has been a pillar of leadership at Multnomah since its founding.

Like his father before him, Jack guided this university with wisdom and grace. When Jack’s health began to decline four years ago, he stepped down from our Board of Trustees and ended the 80-year legacy of Dryden leadership at this university. Multnomah University would not be the institution it is without the Dryden family, and we are eternally grateful for Jack’s commitment to this school. As we remember Jack, we are encouraged by his life of faithfulness and prayer. Jack embodied the good news of the Gospel that we share with our students every day.

Losing a beloved friend is full of grief, but we live in the hope of Jesus. By faith, we believe that death is not the end for those who are in Christ. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family, especially his wife Marilyn. He will be dearly missed.

A celebration of Jack’s life will be held this Saturday, March 7 at 2:30 p.m. at Glenwood Community Church (12201 NE 72nd Ave., Vancouver, WA).
