In Romania with MUServe: Day 4
Day 4: Making friends at the community center
We all awoke this morning after the best night’s sleep of the trip! We are confident that we’re past our jet lag, and we’re happy to not be walking zombies! It has been a busy few days getting here and settling in with our host families. We have been so blessed by their hospitality and their consistent love for their community. Just to give a little context, here is a little bit of our day-to-day.
We are living with Romanian families that feed us breakfast and dinner every day. We either walk, take the bus, or get rides to the Community Center. We arrive at the Word Made Flesh (WMF) Community Center every day at 8 a.m.
We spend an hour in chapel, where we reflect and pray together with our student team and the WMF staff. The chapel time has been a joy. It’s been amazing to join together in honoring and worshiping the same God, the same Christ!
We then split into work groups. Some of us are painting the teen area, some are pulling weeds and getting the outdoor garden ready for planting vegetables. Other students are helping with sewing projects that they sell to raise funds for the WMF mission. Our favorite part so far has been playing with the kids at the center. Laughing, playing a game they call “Ice Cream,” and just trying to learn Romanian has been so much fun with these children.
We have also been accompanying the WMF social workers as they visit homes of children that attend the community center. These visits have been an amazing, eye-opening experiences where we can see first-hand the true meaning of poverty (more on this in a future blog). Later on, we debrief the day together and hear a student member of our team share their life story with us. MUServe Romania has been an incredible journey so far, and we are only getting started.
Our team of Multnomah students and George Fox students has been an amazing partnership. We have been working side by side, sharing our life stories and laughing out loud! It has been a fantastic partnership as we join hands to serve and discover what the Lord is doing in our lives and in the lives of the people of Romania!
