MU Community Rallies Around Ana Wakefield After Car Accident
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Multnomah University community is rallying around Ana Wakefield, a student who was in a severe automobile accident the morning of Wednesday, Oct. 18.
Wakefield, 20, was heading westbound on Highway 212 from her home in Damascus around 5:30 a.m. when she was hit by another driver in a head-on collision. She is currently at OHSU in critical condition, and police have identified a person of interest in the hit-and-run incident.
Women’s Basketball Coach Tim Bieri knows Wakefield as someone who has always been a competitor and “fighter,” as Bieri calls her.
“Ana is a captain; she’s a leader; she always shows up early to practice,” he says. “All the community surrounding her, including her church family in Damascus and here at Multnomah — we have a deep faith that God has Ana in his hands right now, and we have a lot of hope in that.”
Wakefield is an involved member of the university community. The junior is a double major in business and Bible & theology and plays guard on the women’s basketball team.
Multnomah staff, faculty and students gathered together after the accident Wednesday morning to pray for her speedy recovery. Members of the community continue to pray for Ana daily and in chapels. They also have been writing prayers and words of encouragement on a large banner that has been hung in the JCA lounge in her honor.
As support continues to flood in for Wakefield, her family is thankful for the many thoughts, prayers and gestures the community continues to offer.
