Bringing Multnomah’s M.A. in Counseling Online

Multnomah is excited to offer a new  M.A. in Counseling program in partnership with MU Online. This initiative will help meet the need for mental health practitioners in the US and the demand for alternative education formats. The program will launch its first cohort in Spring 2023.

The program will primarily be conducted through live Zoom classes on Tuesday evenings to provide an accessible program option to adult students carrying full-time workloads. Cohorts will also meet in person annually for one long weekend (i.e., three times during the program). While this program runs at a part-time pace to support working adults, it is accomplishable in as little as three years.

“The MAC program shaped and prepared me in such a way that I could get a job after school in any mental health environment. Through the integration of faith and counseling I was able to understand counseling concepts through the lens of my faith while also holding to the ethical standards set forth by the ACA.”

Multnomah’s new Online MAC program students can look forward to learning in a tried and tested cohort model. Weekly connections and asynchronous projects allow students to work on their own time. The program is focused on training qualified licensed professional counselors in Oregon (or equivalent in Washington and many other states).

There will also be an optional emphasis in addictions for students looking to specialize. Students who complete the addictions emphasis may also qualify to be certified alcohol and drug counselors in Oregon (or equivalent in Washington and many other states).

As the dynamic needs of the market evolve, Multnomah is proud to put our students’ needs first by crafting programs around their life stages and goals. Multnomah’s MAC faculty, such as Program Director Kristen White, Psy.D., are champions of their students. Our professors seek to produce well-rounded practitioners that serve people and reflect the love of Christ.

“Our MAC team has very prayerfully considered how God may be moving and where He may be inviting us in response to the worldwide chaos and trauma of the last few years. We are thrilled to birth this new online program in response, utilizing our well-established model that is already training excellent counselors in on-ground classrooms to now begin training online students as well. We look forward to increased partnerships with a variety of students who could not otherwise complete their degree, journeying together toward shaping their God-given passion into a fruitful career.”
