Multnomah Involved in Christmas Program of Historic Proportions

10/20/2004

For the first time in years, Multnomah Bible College and their neighbors at Central Bible Church are teaming up for "A Birthday Celebration," the largest Christmas program in the school's history.

"We've never done anything quite like this," says Professor Miriam Gibby, Worship/Music Department Chairperson at Multnomah. "Musicians and volunteers from Multnomah and Central Bible are combining to offer an experience you won't soon forget. We are inviting the extended Multnomah family, members and friends of Central Bible and people from the Montavilla community."

The festivities begin as guests are escorted from their cars to the auditorium, where carolers spread Christmas cheer. As the night proceeds, those in attendance will be immersed in the atmosphere of a royal celebration, complete with candlelight, a live manger scene, choirs, a cake reception, and gifts for everyone.

The program will feature music performed by choirs from Multnomah and Central Bible, as well as children's choirs and instrumental groups. A dramatic portrayal of the Christmas story will round out the program.

"The decorations, the music, it is all a part of a much bigger picture," adds Gibby. "It's simply called 'A Birthday Celebration' because we're celebrating the birthday of Christ, the most important birthday in all of history. When you’re celebrating something of this magnitude, you can't help but pull out the stops."

"A Birthday Celebration" will take place at Central Bible Church on Glisan Street, next door to Multnomah Bible College, and is free to the public. The program is scheduled for one performance on Friday, December 3, at 7:00 P.M., and two performances on Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 and 7:00 P.M.
