In February 2008, Dr. Paul Louis Metzger, founder and director of The Institute for the Theology of Culture: New Wine, New Wineskins of Multnomah Biblical Seminary will officially launch his strategic ministry partnership with Dr. John M. Perkins, "Drum Majors for Truth and Justice" in Portland, Oregon.
Dr. Perkins is the Founder of the John M. Perkins Foundation for Reconciliation and Development and author of numerous books (including his autobiography, Let Justice Roll Down). Dr. Perkins has served as an advisor to several U.S. presidents on poverty related matters.
"We want to inspire people across the nation to pursue a biblical vision of truth and justice where the all-consuming love of Jesus consumes those things that divide us, like race and class barriers," Dr. Metzger said.
To inaugurate their partnership, Dr. Metzger and Dr. Perkins will be speaking at all three services at Imago Dei Community in Portland, Oregon, on Sunday, February 17, and at Multnomah's 10 a.m. Tuesday chapel service on February 19, held at Central Bible Church.
In association with the launch, Dr. Metzger is holding a book reading event for his new book, Consuming Jesus: Beyond Race and Class Divisions in a Consumer Church, for which Dr. Perkins wrote the afterword. The book reading event will take place on Wednesday, February 13 at 7.30 p.m. at Powell's Bookstore's downtown branch, at 1005 West Burnside.
