Christ’s love compels us … God … gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us (2 Cor. 5:14-20).
What Is Intercultural Studies?
The Bible reveals that God's heart's desire is to bring all nations into relationship with Himself. Unquestionably, God expects His followers to be participants in His worldwide purposes. Therefore, Multnomah offers the Intercultural Studies (missions) program to equip students for effective cross-cultural living and ministry.
Multnomah has a long-standing and credible reputation for its missions emphasis, and sees an increasing number of graduates heading to foreign locations each year. Observing people in other cultures radically changed by the gospel is both personally gratifying and eternally strategic. If students sense the Lord’s direction for cross-cultural ministry or simply wish to increase their vision and broaden their worldview, then they should consider Multnomah.
“My experience in India was one of the few times in my life when I felt truly alive!" (James Clark, Practicum student)
The Intercultural Studies Department exposes students to God's global purposes, informs them of ministry opportunities, and prepares them for effective cross-cultural living and ministry. Academically-trained and field-experienced professors help students grasp the importance of being prepared physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually for overseas ministries. Semester-abroad options and required cross-cultural practicums enrich the program by providing strategic hands-on, life-changing experiences.
“If (she) is any indication of what your typical student is like and what kind of training they are receiving, you are doing something right. Thank you for being deliberate about practicing what you preach by requiring students to go.” (Supervisor of Practicum student in N. Africa)
Study Abroad Options
Opportunities to study abroad are available through the CCCU (Council of Christian Colleges and Universities), of which Multnomah Bible College is an affiliate member. CCCU offers culture-shaping programs in the USA as well as culture-crossing programs in Australia, China, Latin America, the Middle East, England, Russia, and Uganda. Contact us for more information.
“One of the strengths at Multnomah is that the professors who teach in the Intercultural Studies department have all spent years of their lives in other countries. When they speak about things like culture shock, they are speaking from firsthand knowledge, and it shows in their teaching.” (Melissa Young)
