“For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.” (Lk. 15.24, KJV)

Where I come from

I was born in Ootacamund, Tamil Nadu, in southern India. I received my bachelor's degree in Zoology from the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala in 1990, and my master's degree in English Literature from the University of Pune, Maharashtra, in 1993.

The heart of the Father

Love is eternally irresistible. The prodigal son is drawn home, according to the Gospel of Luke, by his father’s nature: generous, wise, able, assiduous, and tender. When I was about eight years old, on a walk home from church one evening with my father, I listened as Daddy delineated the delicacy of the parable: the father’s yearning for his estranged younger son, his attentiveness to his obtuse older son. I did not get it. I was torn between the younger son’s audacity and the older son’s seemingly legitimate grievance. I did not understand the heart of the father. Daddy does.

It should come as no surprise that I work with students preparing them to read courteously, write thoughtfully, and attend to the human condition carefully. It is a privilege to do so for Jesus’ Sake. For I am still learning to say, as the prodigal son did, “I will arise and go to my father” (Luke 15.18).
