We’re providing a safe place to learn and grow
I have seen many changes within the Campus Safety Department in the past two and a half years that I have been here at Multnomah. The commitment to student, staff and faculty safety on the part of the current administration – including the President, the Board and the Vice Presidents – have been truly remarkable. With all they have to juggle within a primarily academic institution, seeing this level of commitment to the safety of its community has been awesome.
In the time I have been here at Multnomah University, the Campus Safety Department has gone from a few officers with their primary focus being locking and unlocking classrooms to an Emergency Management and Campus Safety Department whose purpose is to continually find ways of addressing all threats to campus safety, be it man-made or natural.
While I have seen many miraculous things in my 37 plus years of Police, Fire, Medical and Public Safety service, I have also seen the ugly things people are capable of doing to each other. I truly believe that God has used the events I have experienced in my lifetime to bring me and enable me to serve in a place like Multnomah. I have had the privilege of meeting and working alongside some pretty remarkable people, both within and outside of our department. Additionally, the students I have met, knowing they are going on to do huge works of service for God in Christ, and to further His kingdom in a world that brings such miracles and ugliness, has been something not many people can attest to or have the privilege of experiencing. These people are learning to deal with this kind of world so that they can make a difference for Christ. That’s pretty cool!
I am proud to work alongside men and women in our Campus Safety Department who put others’ safety and interest above their own. Their attitude and dedication, in spite of a variety of trials and tribulations, is truly inspiring. And for God to bring me through what I have been through in my lifetime, to a place where I can be around – and fellowship with – a community like Multnomah, and to serve Him in a way I could never have imagined, is beyond words.
To the Multnomah University community of students, staff and faculty I say, “Thank you for allowing us to serve you by serving Christ in furtherance of His Kingdom.”
