Online Education Meets Immersive Experiences

This online program includes 30 weeks of teaching practicum so that the theories, methodologies, and strategies you learn online are practiced in person. A faculty mentor will be assigned to work with you every step of the way, no matter where your journey takes you. Travel to Rwanda or Thailand with faculty-guides to gain insights from practitioners working in NGOs outside of the U.S. in a two-week immersion experience. You will analyze historical and contemporary theories, evaluate socio-cultural contexts and socio-economic perspectives, and grow in your understanding of God’s heart for humanity.

Intended as an introduction to the field of TESOL, this course examines current
theoretical principles and methodological approaches in the field of second
language teaching.

This course is designed to explore the influences between language and culture
through the field of sociolinguistics. It will lead students to examine how learning experiences can be affected by cultural tendencies and expectations, and how learning about a target language culture enhances successful second language acquisition. This course will also review the diversity of comparative educational systems. These themes will all be connected to practical teaching strategies and implications.

This course examines biblical justice in relation to contemporary issues in both North American and international contexts. Issues such as race, immigration, human trafficking and sexual exploitation, poverty, violence, gender, creation care, and human dignity will be considered along with how to advocate for those who are oppressed and marginalized in society.

This course explores both theological and biblical principles in community development highlighting holistic ministry responses. Emphasis is placed on incarnational living, empowerment, and community participation in bringing about sustainable change and transformation to a variety of complex problems.

TESOL

TESOL student-teaching provides teaching experience in an authentic English-language learning classroom. You have the option to complete the TESOL practicum requirement by teaching community language learners on-campus or teaching anywhere in the world with an internet connection. You may also choose to participate in an MU-sponsored English Bible camp in Japan.

MAGDJ Internships

Internships are a great way to broaden your network and gain hands-on experience in the workplace. Our MAGDJ program partners with a number of organizations whose internships provide you the opportunity to start making an impact now as you continue to get your education.

A research thesis is also an option instead of the required traditional internship, it usually takes two semesters and includes working with a thesis advisor. For more on these options please consult with the Director of the MAGDJ program. Study abroad opportunities are offered every year with program faculty.
