Borrowing from the library
Current Multnomah students, faculty and staff may borrow physical library resources at no charge using a current Multnomah ID card. Students residing outside the Portland area, please see our Distance Student Borrowing Guide.
Free reciprocal borrowing is available for current students, faculty, and staff at OPALL Consortium Libraries (Corban University, Mt. Angel Abbey, Northwest Christian University, and Western Seminary) and participating ATLA institutions with a current MU ID.
MU graduates may activate their free, lifetime library card at the library. Alumni who did not graduate may also purchase a lifetime library card for $10 from the library.
All other public patrons may purchase an annual $25 library card. If you have questions about borrowing policies, please call the circulation desk at 503.251.5322.
Library materials can be renewed as long as the item is not overdue, does not have a hold on it, or has not reached its renewal limit. Multnomah users may renew by logging into ‘My Account’ in Primo. If you want to renew an interlibrary loan item, please contact MU library staff and a renewal will be requested. Non-Multnomah patrons may renew in person or by calling the circulation desk at 503.251.5322.
Reserve items are assigned by Multnomah professors and are shelved at the circulation desk. Please request by title. Check out time is two hours with one possible renewal, unless another patron requests the item. Reserve materials may leave the library unless otherwise noted. Overnight check out is allowed 30 minutes before the library closes.
Fines and fees
Overdue items accrue fines as follows: $0.25 per item per day for regular circulation items, $1 per video a day, and $1 an hour for reserve materials. Please pay at library circulation desk with cash or checks. For lost or irreparably damaged library resources, library patrons are responsible for the replacement cost plus a $15 processing fee. Failure to pay fines and fees may result in the loss of borrowing privileges.
