MU Co-Hosts Seminar in Burundi for NGO Workers

In partnership with the International Leadership University of Burundi, Multnomah University co-hosted a seminar for 47 non-governmental (NGO) workers on May 29 in the capital city of Bujumbura. Workers from both Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo came together for a half-day seminar focused on best practices found in community development, organizing and innovation.

The seminar consisted of participatory learning and community-based approaches to solving complex humanitarian situations in the region. Valuable input came from the workers as they met in small groups to discuss their work throughout the area. Many different organizations were represented, and the time proved invaluable for them to meet and discuss their own projects and receive input on their approaches and strategies to bring healing and solve challenges.

The Global Studies Department and degree program at Multnomah University looks forward to future opportunities to work with the International Leadership University in Burundi as we support one another in forming leaders and humanitarian workers in the region.
